We will be discussing the genre of photo essays and looking at some models. Your homework has three parts:
- Read pgs. 77-85 in The Bedford Book of Genres.
- Find, and post, an example of a photo essay. Try Look and Exposures from the New York Times, or In Focus from the Atlantic. For the later, keep in mind that photo contests are not photo essays.
- Write a brief blog post summarizing your photo essay. What is the argument or thesis of the photo essay? How does your photo essay use images to get its point across? How does it conform to, or deviate from, the genre conventions listed in The Bedford Book of Genres?
